Every fragment of the heart lay beating within

these barrier eyes learning to refuse outpour

roles reversed as the responsible became the responsibility

and I chained to company yet utterly alone…

No reproof, no corrections for my mistakes, no lessons

however I squander away my life is mine to choose

yet I must pay in tearful ransoms

in my solitary moments, your inadvertent dues…

Now left alone amid the boughs of the lapping wind

a rising star hid ‘neath dark clouds looming o’er

no strength of mountains, no, not for me

but streams of tears themselves crying for shield and cover…

I compose myself, holding it together, as screams begin to surface

and gnaw at my soul like a thousand sharp knives

between ‘I don’t know how to do this’, and ‘it won’t do, to lose my grace’

I realise someone must stay strong, for the rest to survive…

  1. your handwriting is so beautiful, I feel like reading something for the lost manuscripts. The content presented here also feels out of this world, maybe due to richness of the thoughts, yet they feel so relatable. these inadvertent dues manage to bring out the screams even in the strongest among us

    1. I’ve read and re read this comment wondering if I deserve your lavish praise. Fortunate to have a fine writer himself comment on the richness of this poem. And yes, I agree with the closing observation! Thanks, ESP.

  2. Too young to feel such torment, though you sayโ€ I am all ages…โ€ . Clearly ….you have been here before. So intriguing to see the world through your eyes, as it is conveyed through your writing. Itโ€™s magical! ๐Ÿ”ฎ

    1. I love each word in your comment, Patty, as usual, of course. You touch me with your passionate takeaways from my poems – there’s nothing more precious and meaningful to me. Thank you very much.
Don’t know about being here before but have experienced enough darkness in this lifetime to last me forever.
P.S. love the crystal ball emoji. ๐Ÿ’Ÿ๐Ÿ˜˜

    1. What a poetic way to put it! Also, as I’m sure all my readers know by now, I love water imageries and allusions – I’d be one if I could, lol! Thanks Sakshi. ๐Ÿ’œ

  3. The comments assemble and line up as dominoes waiting for your attention ….. and even if your back is momentarily turned we are here, waiting for a gentle nudge to begin our clattering, chattering! Click clack clack. When you are ready, a little nudge so we
might bring a smile to you again. Miss you dearest Ishu ๐Ÿ’œ
