Ishaisms, Poetry

Odyssey of Life

I knew when I embarked on this quest,

knew there’d be no pause, no rest;

knew I’d have to pass all the tests –

failure isn’t an option in this Odyssey of life…

I knew when it had begun raining sorrow,

my parched spirituality, by the day would grow,

and though I’d be too weary for a new tomorrow,

I’d have to give my all in this Odyssey of life…

Then came the drought with its heat of quarrels –

the lone respite in gleaned poetry and mused morals;

yet none could see beyond the mask – these struggles –

in this tedious Odyssey of life…

And then the winter winds blew all dry,

refusing to carry neither prayers, nor cries,

watching me fall and stagger up and try,

whispering – “That’s how you face the Odyssey of life!

But now the East glimmers with a ray of hope –

out of these caverns I see potential, I see scope;

and come what may now I know I can cope,

for I have learned lessons in this Odyssey of life…

  1. The odyssey of life presented with such poetic flair that it makes the reader raring to go on the journey, I love the positive tone of this poem.
    Doodles are getting more elaborate and detailed, resonate so well with the verse.

  2. You have the power to start weaving a few words here and then turn them into something so intricate and beautiful. I await your posts now! 😊

      1. Hehe, I’m too crude of an artist to raise my sights to “drawings” hence it’s always safer to call them doodles.. But I take your wonderful comment with elation and send you a big hug! ❀❀❀❀

  3. Look at the depth of your doodle this time as it’s almost three dimensional on my screen! Imagine, being able to provide visuals to accentuate your already rich sentiments. When a reader visits Ishaisms they have the pleasure of words and art: a double whammy of delicious colour and candour.
    And in this write, you are the very centre of a rose, exposed … adding layer upon layer. You are beautiful from the inside out, dear Isha. I feel your pain and your hope…. πŸ’œπŸ’ŸπŸ˜ŠπŸ’ŸπŸ’œ

    1. Look at the depth of your multi dimensional comment, my friend! 😱😍 Waking up to this… I couldn’t ask for more! 😒 I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your time and presence and value your encouraging and affectionate self, Lady D! You’re inspiring to me… And as for the doodles I never really gave them much thought, but once I noticed that people actually liked them (and weren’t just bring polite πŸ˜›) I started putting a little more effort in them! Hehe. Have a wonderful evening, O poet if the West! ❀❀❀❀❀

      1. I’m always touched by our interactions. My heart knows a soft heart, and my senses see beauty and feel much when you write. As wonderful an evening moment for me as the smiles you sport at the start of your day sweet Lady Isha (of a continent faraway) … but not so far! ❀️🌹❀️🌹❀️🌹

  4. It’s for only the ones who embark on a quest that the answers unveil. The first risk is the first step to a greater risk and the greater adventures answers great questions. And this poem is a voyage of life where I see myself sitting somewhere in the same yacht. Thanks for writing such a piece.πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

    1. “The first risk is the first step to a greater risk” – I get it! You write straight from the soul and its honesty is resounding! Thanks to you, Vikash, for writing with such genuineness πŸ˜‡πŸ‘

  5. Love the doodle! It goes perfectly with the beautiful writing. On a less serious note, it reminds me of that scene in the Incredibles where Elastigirl transforms herself into a boat…I can’t wait for the Incredibles 2 to come out!

    Anyway, this deviates from my original intention of commenting on the unmistakeable beauty of your writing. Have you ever sent your work to newspapers? They’d all be fighting for it!

    1. Now aren’t those some glorious words? β€πŸ’ž Thank-you Sakshi!
      This life is a never ending voyage,
      and I sail on with wind in the sails and an ocean of courage!

  6. when it had begun raining sorrow,
    my parched spirituality, by the day would grow
    How amazing beautifully you describe this very human nature.
    out of these caverns I see potential, I see scope – I love the use of the word scope here – made me think how commonly is hope considered the savior but I never really enjoyed hope. So I found scope to be powerful and beautiful.
    Wonderful poem throughout πŸ’›βœ¨

    1. You always look at my work with such insight, my dear friend, that I can’t help re reading some of those lines myself, and see it through your eyes. Such a powerful reader you are. Thank you, it’s an honour to share my work with one such as yourself.
