O Vulnerable One

Why do you hide your hopes and dreams,
your darkest sins, your memories,
O Vulnerable One?

Why won’t you let down your walls,
show who you are and bare your all,
O Vulnerable One?

Why do you fear heartbreak and abandonment,
veil your truth in layers of raiment,
O Vulnerable One?

Don’t you know that all your beauty,
lies in your discreet naivety,
O Vulnerable One?

Don’t you see how your innocence,
draws unto you the divine presence,
O Vulnerable One?

If only you’d realize that what’s within,
is always greater than what can be seen,
O Vulnerable One!

  1. This really resonates with me… In the past, I have really struggled with walling myself off from the world, so much that I lost almost everyone I cares about. Recent events in my life forced those walls to come down, and I rejoiced as many of the people they had been holding back just walked right over the rubble and back into my life. I also needed to work very hard to regain the trust of others, who were hurt by the walls and had walked away long ago. And now I have an all new struggle, a struggle to not rebuild… It is so tempting, and posts like this help to remind me why I am fighting to keep the walls down.

    1. Thank you so much for sharing such a personal account of your life… I hope you never have to struggle again! 🙏 Being ourselves, wholly and beautifully ourselves, fearlessly, is a risk that we must undertake to find our people… We win some, lose some; but if we remain hidden the greatest loss is our own…

    1. Thankyou so much 💛🌷 This particular one was doodled first, Radhika… There is no particular pattern but mostly I write and make a doodle according to that! 😊💟

  2. There is perfect, purple melancholy that runs through the veins of this poignant piece!
Her eyes are dark, but they are open to possibilities and hope of a changed tomorrow. Beautiful, hopeful …. and I am warm from the feelings you imbue to the lucky reader, sweet Isha! ❤
    A triumph ….!!!

      4. Look to the skies you say, and so I shall, for skies have no limits and borders, and you will probably be looking at the same sky, composing musical rhymes, my virtual pen pal! 📝💟🌷

  3. This is a perfect platform to rise. Your poem sets the mood for the vulnerable one to be who they are. Like a push into the wilderness, where you realize what you’re…
    And begin, building….😊

  4. I’m sorry, I seem to be ‘binge-reading’ your poetry, and I keep telling myself I can read and not comment (it’s ok, Rachel, you can do it, don’t overwhelm the poetess with too much commenting), but…. I don’t seem able. You write so beautifully on issues so dear to my heart, so fundamental to our human psyche. That feeling of vulnerability you speak of in this poem… it makes us hide, it prevents us from being us. Your concluding lines are magnificent

“If only you’d realize that what’s within,
is always greater than what can be seen,
O Vulnerable One!”

If only we all could embrace and enact your wise words Isha ❤️

  5. My, oh, my! You honour me so! How can I ever thank you in mere words? It’s impossible… There are millions who say things but few who truly feel them and that’s how your expression comes through… I’m sure you’ve been through some truly dark times…it shows in the warmth and aura/energy of your words, Rachel. There’s light in them.
Sadly, that wisdom lives mostly in the writer in me…I fail to live by that wisdom many, many times..!
I shall never be overwhelmed with your words, anywhere, anytime…they’re like beautiful stars in the galaxy that I happily gaze upon – the more, the merrier!

    1. Ha! Well, that’s a relief! I love how you put things, dear friend, and you say things that are so meaningful and touching. Dark and light – they go together don’t they?. Speaking of auras, yours is bright and wise. I hope you’re having a good weekend ❤️

  6. This so much feels like speaking to me and I’m sure it does the same to a lot of other people. I loved the fact that you were asking questions but at the same time pushing the person to be who they are, to build themselves up again. This one has all my heart, loved it ❤❤
