The Boatman Series (4) – The Boatman and the Harbour

Starless winter night, the cold, dark waters –
a boat floats mid river, away from the travellers.
Waiting, clueless, at the misty harbour,
the Boatman takes off his red-stained sweater.
Aghast and afraid he pulls it closer,
rendered doubtless and faint by his sniffer.

At a distance a murmuring crowd draws together –
the Boatman struggles to see by the light of their glowing tapers.
He goads his trembling feet to take him further,
the chaos, the screams, the commotion to discover.
A foreboding in his heart as he walks past the border
of the multitude of tiny blood-red flowers,
and sees the drowned – now rescued cadaver,
of the mother of the wronged and hatless, solitary smoker.

    1. Congratulations, Mayuri! I adore your blog and am so glad it’s nominated 👏 ❤
Also, a heartfelt thanks for nominating me. I’m so touched with your sweet gesture❤ Unfortunately, I’ve decided not to do any more award posts, having had some terrible spam issues in the past two instances that I did. I’m looking forward to reading your post as soon as I can 😊 Keep up the amazing work!
Congratulations once again, Mystery Blogger 😎

  1. I now officially have a gut ache! Partially because I missed this post (spring narcolepsy no doubt brought on my aromatic lilac blooms), and there is a cadaver!
Eeek…. yet such a gripping instalment before sleep! Now I have to go gaze at one of your calming doodles! I so enjoy your variety of posts my dear friend. ❤

    1. I read your comments longer than I should because they’re SO good! ❤
It’s so weird I didn’t realise you missed this one! I would have sent it to you! 😞
Sorry for the cadaver hehehe. All for the sake of literature. 😏

      1. Something you may not know about me is that I have a deep aversion to lifefree bodies. Birds. Bugs. You name it.
When I used to have cable I would change channels quickly if there was a CSI type show.
It’s a testament to how much I enjoy your writing madam …that I will overlook the minor (dead body) detail! 😉 A very gripping tale unfolds!

      2. Ah yes I remember us having talked about this once… Well, I will try my best to avoid any more gruesome plot twists hehehe, but I find I can’t rein the artistic demon and sometimes have no control over what and how I write.. 😛
Also, I hate those shows too, they’re unbearable to me. Even in books, although I can read general accounts on the horrifying, I find it difficult to read the gory details!

      3. No no …. don’t avoid anything that naturally emerges when your creativity storms the fortress like a battering ram! I’ll just cover my eyes…ever so momentarily 😊
